Prospects: How we can help you?

Prospects... Access to Life (logo)Prospects is a Christian organisation which enables and values people with learning disabilities to live their lives to the full.

Caring can be fun but exhausting.  As your child reaches adolescence you are aware that school and other children services will come to an end which may add to your worries.  Maybe you have organised all your adult child’s activities for years not knowing that you can have help. You may want some advice regarding church inclusion and bringing your child to faith.

Whatever your circumstances Prospects is committed to helping you.

John (not his real name) lived at home with his parents. He helped around the house and at his church but did not have many activities outside of the home. With Prospects help his parents were able to gain the right benefits for John and approach the local Learning Disabilities Team for a comprehensive assessment. He now has 25 hours day support to access local volunteering and leisure opportunities with a further 17 hours agreed to be used when he moves into his own home. After his first week he fell asleep during his church home group happy but tired after telling them all about his new activities.

Two ladies with learning disabilities were enabled to gain support hours to move into a flat just around the corner from where they previously lived enabling them to retain church and community life. They have learnt cooking, shopping and of course the inevitable housework! A house warming has been enjoyed with their church friends.

Four other ladies are been supported through the social care process in order for them to live together from next Easter. Their families are busy seeking suitable rented accommodation.

We can help you in the following ways:

  • Giving help through the social care process ensuring there is a detailed assessment and support plan to enable your relative to gain the support hours he/she needs.
  • Networking with other families
  • Giving help and advice in accessing housing.
  • Appointing Christian support workers or matching existing support workers with your relative’s needs.
  • Advice on church inclusion
  • Prayer support
