News- Darren Millar AM recently tabled a debate in the Senedd debating chamber on Faith – Making a Better Wales, drawing heavily from Gweini’s Faith in Wales report. You can actually listen to it on the Senedd TV website (it’s a bit cumbersome-- you have to put June 25th down for the date and look for the Plenary session on that date – it was item number 9), or alternatively you can read the transcript of the debate here (it starts on p123).
- The most recent Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation was published this month. Read the BBC article here and see if your area made the top 10!
- 30 Christian young people from Bridgend’s Solid Rock took part in the recent IgniteHope event in May – volunteering in the community - and are going a long way in seeing the town’s recent negative image being redefined. Volunteers filled a skip to overflowing as they cleared Tremains Woods, the play area near the spar and the Triangle area of Brackla. They did gardening for older people in Windmill, cleared the beach of rubbish at Ogmore-by-Sea and delivered Community Safety leaflets in Bridgend and Porthcawl. In the evenings they then joined the other 500 young people for events in Cardiff Awesome stuff!
- Swords were drawn at dawn this past week between the Welsh MPs and their counterparts in the National Assembly and Welsh Assembly Government. It was over the Legislative Competence Orders, through which the Welsh Assembly & AMs receive more powers. There are currently 11 being proposed when it was anticipated that there would only be four or five a year, and MPs are worried that this will swamp the system. But then you wouldn’t expect turkeys to vote for Christmas would you? Read the BBC article here.
