PRESS RELEASE 03 09 07
Wales' first faith audit
receives a third of responses in rapid time
Wales’ first faith audit, ‘Counting for
our Communities’ has already received over 1,200 responses
from the 3,900 questionnaires that were sent out to Wales’
faith communities over the last two months.
The
Welsh Assembly-backed project is led by Gweini –
the Council of the Christian Voluntary Service in Wales, who
are working in partnership with the Wales Council of Voluntary
Action (WCVA).
According to Gweini Research Director John
M. Evans “This is a remarkably good response, in a day when
we are all being asked for lots of information. A third of
all the faith communities in Wales have already replied, and
the figure is growing all the time. This shows that Churches
and other faith communities in Wales believe that their work
for their local communities is important and want the public
and government to know about it.”
Analysis
of the results will not start until the survey is completed,
but the monetary value of their contribution to Welsh civil
society, says Evans, is expected to run into tens of millions
of pounds.
A
report of the project, hailed by First Minister Rhodri Morgan
as “groundbreaking”, should be ready by March next year.
